Never Say Die

It's true - motherhood has attempted the assassination of my blog on a number of occasions but what I need to remember more is that it's provided me with the very essence of what I write about.

In an effort to organize my thoughts as I make the leap back into my modest little (dare I admit it?) mommy-blog, I will brainstorm a ragged list of the events and non-events that have transpired over the course of the past year and a half, with a particular emphasis on my three little subject matters.

Elliott:

Enters the 4th grade and loves it. Continues to do great in reading and writing (although the raw literary passion's eased up a bit and found its way into the collecting of GADZILLIONS of baseball cards). We were happy to see his highest marks in Math and Science, which he claims to have a weakness for (to which his teacher says 'bah!').

Continues playing for WBL's cult-like hockey association. Enters a new bracket (interestingly enough, a "squirt" is bigger than a "mite"). He makes the B squad, which is a good thing. He encounters his first competitive rift with a friend taking away some fun out of the game. He eventually finds peace, balances out and of course, begs us to play again next year. GULP.

Loves to wear his hair on the longer side and is continuously compared to Zac Effron (naturally, he claims to detest these remarks but let's face it, he's gloating big time inside.) But wait... who IS this Zac Effron?

Eventually makes his 4th grade mutual crush official by way of persistence of aforementioned crush's friend (a/k/a "if you like my friend, just tell her"... "no!"... "yes!" ..."no!" ..."yes!" ... "ok fine - you tell her for me!"

Come yearbook time, I find out exactly what "H.A.K.A.S." means by way of crush's inability to cling to the ever-necessary acronym. Yes, finding "have a kick ass summer" written in pink glitter pen by the cute little brunette was all this momma needed to reaffirm the fact that little girls are evil.

Elliott continues to nurture his passion for baseball (his ONE TRUE LOVE, eh hm...) and even though you'll still find him making game-winning plays behind home plate as catcher, he has been asked to pitch a few innings this season. Initially, he was terrified but found that with a little confidence and practice, he has a wicked mean fastball and a good eye for the strike zone!

NOAH:

Begins his official career as a (full-day) Kindergartner. Has absolutely no qualms about getting on a bus, finding his spot on the carpet and going through the hot-lunch line. He is a CHAMP. We began to notice some issues with his lack of attention sometime around Christmas and eventually had to have a sit-down with Mrs. Teacher and Sister Sharon (vice-principal). We compared notes and reaffirmed our positions on how to proceed.

(Brace yourself for a boastful surprise...) After a month of testing to see if Noah was truly absorbing what was being taught, we eventually found that he is not only meeting his academic marks, but is exceeding them, particularly in the area of math, which has him at a 3rd grade level in some sub-categories. In the classroom and in this test, he seems to thrive on the accelerated areas and has not interest in the basic stuff (which is a bit of a problem, seeing has he is in KINDERGARTEN.) Whad'ya know? He's an impatient genius.

In the way of sports, Noah was pretty keen on tennis, so sign him up for lessons we did. He enjoyed himself and loved chasing down those inoffensive foam balls. He still seems to enjoy it but asked to play baseball for his summer sport. Again, 'whad'ya know? the kid's a natural!'. For kids this young, WBL only offers tee-ball, which Andy claims is a farce. He signed Noah up for instructional baseball which means my little 6-yr old is playing with 8-yr olds. And he's really keeping up well! Much like his brother, he takes it very seriously and shows up in the appropriate attire, no matter the muggy dew points. He hits, he runs and some day soon, he'll even catch a ball!

SAWYER:

Curly, energetic, boogery, drooly, crawling, walking, drunken running, CLIMBING, bruises, cuts, fat lips, cooing, smiling, giggling, drunken ranting, ear-piercing screaming, cuddling, pulling hair, smacking, whapping, yanking, splashing, crying, playing, learning, growing, bug-smooshing, flower-pulling, belly-poking, human-vacuum, freedom-seeking bundle of joy!!!

Whew.

There's so much more to say but I'll pace myself and check in again.
